14 Flood Angel® Flood Defender™ Barriers installed at medical unit.

For this month’s “Project of the month”, we take a look at a series of door defence measures installed at Clifton Medical Secure Unit in York. With 14 entrances and exits to protect, our bespoke Flood Angel® Flood Defender™ Barriers were specified as the ideal solution.

Balfour Beatty is a multinational infrastructure group with capabilities in engineering, construction, infrastructure and support services. Operating in over 80 countries, Balfour Beatty is the largest construction contractor in the UK.

UKFB were appointed by Balfour Beatty to specify flood mitigation measures to a new build project in Clifton. The new Medical Secure Unit has been built on a flood plain and the building has already been developed to help reduce the risk of flooding, however, additional measures were required for the interior of the building.

With 14 entrances and exits, it was decided the most suitable solution would be the Flood Angel® Flood Defender™ Barrier. This bespoke product is manufactured to size with six different fixing systems to choose from. Quick and easy to deploy, the Flood Defender™ Barrier is a popular solution to protect against flooding.

UKFB endeavour to provide the most suitable solution, preserving the aesthetics of the property where possible. For this project the client requested rails as their preferred fixing system, the rails were fitted to the internal side of the door where they will be a permanent fixture so that when required the barrier can easily be deployed and fitted into place.
