The summer floods of 2007 impacted much of the UK, with continuous heavy rain caused flooding to hundreds of homes and properties. On 20th July, Aldermaston Primary School was preparing for the summer break when a freak storm hit the county forcing teachers and pupils to abandon the school.
Local authorities were called in to evacuate pupils via windows in life rafts. The Glade Music Festival that was due to take place that weekend had to also be cancelled after flood waters submerged the main stage and car park.
West Oxfordshire District Council released a tender to survey and install flood mitigation measures to Aldermaston Primary following the damaging floods.
UKFB was awarded the scheme and undertook a series of surveys to determine what solutions were best suited. Flood Defender™ Barriers were specified for installation at several points around the school. All barriers were individually manufactured to specified sizes and clearly marked for ease of installation should the worse happen.
The scheme took one week to complete.
