Following the summer floods of 2007, properties in Steeple Bumpstead were identified by the Environment Agency as being eligible to receive Property Level Protection. The floods affected most of the village, causing some residents to abandon their properties when nearby brooks overflowed into their homes.
Since the floods, an extensive flood alleviation scheme has been implemented to prevent further flooding. The scheme implemented various measures to much of the village so that when the threat occurred, homes and businesses would be protected. However, a stand-alone scheme via the EA was conducted to identify flood risk to a handful of properties in the area.
UKFB submitted a tender to survey and install flood mitigation measures to one property initially, however on completion, a further two properties in the village positioned close to a brook were identified as eligible for the scheme. UKFB was awarded the contract to provide Property Level Protection to all three properties.
Although neither property was affected by surface water flooding into their homes, flooding had proved to be an issue to underfloor cavities. In response, Flood Angel® Anti-Flood Airbricks and Flood Angel® approved Sumps & Pumps were specified and installed to manage the risk of future flooding.
This project was completed within a week.
