As the UK’s leading flood contractor, UK Flood Barriers works with a range of clients delivering PLP schemes incorporating anything from one to 500 properties.

Flooding is a relatively new phenomenon for many and unsurprisingly public awareness of both flood risk and flood mitigation solutions is relatively limited.

With several years’ experience working with customers on the ‘front line’ our customer service advisors and our experienced and knowledgeable site based teams play a vital role in helping educate about flood risk as well as reassuring customers that they can take control of their personal situation and protect themselves in the future with appropriate mitigation measures.

Our reputation has been built at the forefront of PLP delivery. We are recognised for our high quality contract delivery, product effectiveness, customer service and our overall value for money.

We are also in the unique position to have unlimited access to the skilled design and engineering team at our sister company, UKFB International, helping us stay ahead of the flood market with our innovative approach.

Between 2010-2015, we’ve delivered nearly 100 Property Level Protection (PLP) schemes for local authorities and the Environment Agency, comprising almost 6000 homes.

The most fundamental element of the entire flood protection process is the initial property Survey.

Regardless of property type, our highly experienced and qualified team has the knowledge and expertise to carry out a full and comprehensive survey.

If a property is listed, is in a conservation area or is subject to specific planning issues, we can also provide a RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) qualified professional to undertake a specialist survey.

The Survey is crucial in determining all the key points of water ingress across an entire  property as well as identifying the most effective products available to provide flood protection.

Surveying Team

Our team of flood surveyors has undergone extensive training under the Flood Professionals programme. They are certified to survey for flood risk and to specify the most appropriate flood solutions for a property. They are highly experienced often working with a range of stakeholders - architects, civil engineers, borough engineers and domestic clients – to ensure delivery of a comprehensive survey.

Surveying Process

During a survey, care is taken to gain a comprehensive flood history of the property and surrounding area; ensuring that all potential points of water ingress are identified so that a complete range of flood protection measures can be recommended.

The survey report will make recommendations about suitable flood resistance measures and will highlight areas where remedial work might need to be carried out to assist the effective implementation of flood resistance measures. Consideration is given to the type of building, its age and structure.

On acceptance of the survey recommendations, a detailed quotation is issued and a programme of works developed for installation.

Solutions Specification

As market leading flood experts, we are strong advocates of “passive” flood defence where the design of products requires no people and no power to deploy. There is a strong drive towards passive solutions for property level protection, and whilst there are a wide variety of products on the market, UKFB’s preferred choice is the Flood Angel range.

Not only does its door, sewage and brick defence products hold appropriate BSI Kitemark accreditations, but when utilised as a ‘package’, they provide holistic protection across an entire property.

UK Flood Barriers has also pioneered the concept of “wet testing” to give the customer peace of mind. Flood Defender Doors and/or Barriers which our team have fitted can be wet tested in situ (at an additional charge) to demonstrate their effectiveness.

The image below of a ‘typical’ house highlights the areas of potential water ingress into a property and the types of products UK Flood Barriers can install to minimise the risk of flood damage.

Our team of certified installers are passionate about delivering a completely professional result across every contract, every time. Working closely with our surveying team they only ever fit the most appropriate Kitemark solutions that have been rigorously tested and will have the least visual impact on the building.

Our extensive experience of delivering high profile, multi property contracts gives us the edge when working on larger projects. Adopting a consultative project management style, a comprehensive programme of works is developed including the provision of RA/MS, client liaison meetings, reporting procedures and customer communication.

Every member of the team is highly accomplished and fully conversant with construction methods used in all types of buildings from Grade I listed to modern industrial. The end result will always be the same: a clean site, clear lines of communication and consideration for the overall aesthetic effect at the top of the agenda.

We place great emphasis on the importance of customer support and training at the completion of each PLP project. As soon as the Completion Statement and the Customer Satisfaction questionnaire are completed, a Homeowner Guide pack is given to the customer as part of the handover.

The Homeowner Guide provides a reference point and details on warranty conditions for all products installed at that property. As well as identifying product locations, it also provides user advice on maintenance, cleaning and general care of the installed products.

We pride ourselves on listening to our customers and assessing feedback via questionnaires and market research. This feedback is relayed across the team for assessment and along with input on ‘problem led solutions’ from our site teams, forms the focus of our drive towards continual improvement and innovation.

UK Flood Barriers urges clients and property owners to undergo regular “dry runs”. There is a strong link between those who regularly get together to practice deployment and activate their flood plans, and the effectiveness of PLP flood defence schemes.

We are happy to lend further support by attending community-led dry runs and we also offer a Service Level Agreement to customers who wish to take up the offer of regular, annual maintenance on the products we have installed.

BSI has a very strong, global reputation as a quality provider of accreditation marks. It was this, coupled with their professionalism and can-do approach that lead us to choose BSI as our preferred accreditation channel.

PAS 1188, developed by BSI is now recognised as is the principal mark of quality across the flood defence sector. It is also now widely adopted and recognised by the Environment Agency and local authorities. It is a trusted mark of quality.
