In order to ensure correct operation of the backwater valve, its functioning should be checked periodically. It should be done once a month and each time after intensive rainfall.
The check consists of manual switching of the backflow cutoff lever several times from OPEN (A) to CLOSED ( B) position. The lever should move smoothly between these two end positions.
If the lever moves with difficulty, or especially when it cannot be set to CLOSED position, it is necessary to perform servicing operations (see below).
The lever is to be left in OPEN position after the check.

In case of longer break in sewage system use, it is recommended to shift the backflow cutoff lever to closed position, in order to protect the rooms against any unpleasant smells.
The following maintenance operations are to be carried out every six months or in case of incorrect functioning of the backwatervalve:
- make sure that the backflow cutoff lever is in OPEN position
- unscrew 4 mounting bolts and remove the cover
- clean all parts
- check the condition of the gaskets, on the flap and under the cover. Replace them if necessary with original new Karmat gaskets (available from UK Flood Barriers).
- grease the gaskets - silicon emulsions are recommended
- re-install the cover and tighten the bolts with the torque of 5 to 7Nm 7.
the backflow cutoff lever should be left in OPEN position. |
